The Finest in Hospitality Befitting
the Mitsui Group Guesthouse
The Tsunamachi Mitsui Club is a member’s club for the Mitsui Group. Constructed more than a century ago in 1913, the main building began its history as a guesthouse for the Mitsui family (the Mitsui Tsunamachi Villa) and then, after the war, continued as a guesthouse for member companies of the Mitsui Group. A stately, historic establishment located in a tranquil environment rich with the colors of the seasons, the club can be used for a variety of purposes including dining, banquets, events, weddings, and even casual meals.
A Masterpiece of Western Architecture
Stately Private Rooms
The main building was designed by architect Josiah Conder, who produced many Western-style buildings from the Meiji into the Taisho periods. An example of classical architecture exhibiting many Baroque characteristics, the building offers symmetry, an elliptical atrium, and an appealing arced veranda. The Georgian interior is relatively bright in tone and incorporates distinctive fireplaces and furniture. Guests will also enjoy the numerous paintings and sculptures by masters such as Turner and Rodin that can be found here and there throughout the building.
A Historic Wine Cellar and Bar
Fine Works of Art
The club’s Wine Cellar holds an impressive 12,000 bottles. Stories are told of how this unparalleled selection even played a significant role in the decision to award the 1964 Olympic Games to Tokyo. Resting quietly in the collection are many rare items not often seen today, such as imported whiskies and wines bearing stickers affixed in the 1970s under the Liquor Tax Act. The bar awaits with an array of roughly 2,000 Western liquors and other drinks.
Traditional French Cuisine
and Hospitality
Our club has a proud tradition of French cuisine passed down over the years by successive head chefs. The dining room boasts a 5-meter-high ceiling that invites you to enter a sumptuous, out-of-the-ordinary space Where you can enjoy impressive flavors woven from carefully selected fresh ingredients and traditional recipes handed down over generations. Attentive service guarantees an enjoyable time for all.
